The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Scholarship Foundation Program hosted its 3rd Annual “Swing for Education” Benefit Golf Tournament at Fountainhead Creek Golf Course near Checotah, OK on September 2, 2016. The Scholarship Foundation Program created this fundraising activity to support its mission of providing scholarship opportunities for Muscogee (Creek) students attending universities, community colleges, and technical and vocational schools. The 3rd Annual “Swing for Education” Benefit Golf Tournament accommodated 100+ golfers throughout tournament play consisting of MCN tribal citizens and employees, other tribal members, and outside businesses/organizations. The tournament had a 4 person scramble format with 1st, 2nd, 3rd cash prizes, contest prizes, and door prizes. There was considerable excitement about the 18th hole; a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 SLT Crew Cab was provided by James Hodge Chevrolet of Okmulgee as the Hole-in-One prize. Dixon Golf provided additional hole contests to benefit the Scholarship Foundation Program. Breakfast was provided and served by the Fountainhead Creek Golf Course staff. Breakfast included sausage biscuits; orange juice, water and coffee. Dinner was provided and served by Jo Jo’s Q including pulled pork, chopped brisket, polish sausage, baked beans, and potato salad. Contest prizes included TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist Golf bags, Odyssey and Scotty Cameron putters and a 32 inch TV. The “Swing for Education” Benefit Golf Tournament committee included; honorary chairman Mr. James Jennings, chair Nathan Barnett, vice chair Pete G. Coser, sponsorship and advertisement co-chairs Nathan Barnett & Pete G. Coser, volunteer chair Jennifer Killian, events chair Brigham Bert, public relations chair Geebon Gouge, and marketing chair Jason Salsman.
